Houston-based artist Rejse (pronounced ‘rise’) has an inherent connection to the earth and landscape having grown up in rural Wyoming. The mountains, rivers, stones, trees, and flowers were a part of everyday life. With age came respect and awe for nature. It began to take on metaphorical meaning for him. In flowers, he saw the blossoming of life, optimism, and fulfillment of potential. In rivers, he saw progression, steady movement toward a goal complete with both turbulent and calm moments. In rock formations, he saw beauty, elegance, and strength carved over generations by icy winters and dry summers. Nature continues to inspire the artwork of Rejse, who works with a natural flow, much like rainwater eroding a path through the dry dirt of the desert. He now connects these forms to the human experience.

He uses line, shape, and space to create harmonious forms of movement symbolizing the necessary balance humans must constantly seek to achieve with the Earth.
